Covid-19 Info

In an effort to curb the rise of COVID-19, Wisconsin Governor Evers has issued a “Safer at Home” order effective today, March 25th until April 24th.   In order to comply with Governor Evers “Safer at Home” order I have decided to cancel the April General Membership Meeting.  This is the only membership meeting in April.

As you know, at this meeting the local union awards scholarship’s and apprentice book reimbursement. I will be presenting all business normally conducted at April`s meeting to the e-board on April 7th for approval. I will ask the E-Board to waive apprentice attendance requirements for any meeting that was canceled due to COVID-19 outbreak; for apprentice book reimbursement. The minutes of the e-board will be posted on the Local 14 website on April 8th under the members area.

The Local 14 offices are open to members only. Office staff will be working on site but I am asking members to please try to avoid coming to the halls. If we can help members via e-mail, by phone, or by mail that would limit exposure for everyone. We are experiencing an increase in calls so please be patient as we deal with all members needs and rest assured, if you leave a message, we will call you back asap.

I know there is allot of uncertainty in dealing with COVD-19 and the Governor’s Order. I have been in constant communication with our lobbyist for the Governor’s office, our contractors, the I.O., NECA, State Building Trades, WEEBF, our Pension Plan and community leaders. Changes are taking place hourly!

The Governor`s Order lists all building trades as “critical trades” and allows the trades to continue working on all projects. We have been working closely with NECA to make sure our contractors follow all safety rules and recommendations for dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak. If you have any concerns about your project please give me a call.

I feel your stress and uncertainty with this ever changing situation. Right now we must do our part to supply the needed help to keep essential businesses and operations open to meet the future demands for essential functions and do it in a way that protects us and our families. I am confident that we can follow the necessary safety recommendations on the job, keep essential services open, and protect our members and their families.

This outbreak will not be over in a few days or weeks. This will take months! So please stay diligent with the recommendations of the CDC. I have included links below for more information on what you can do to protect your family during these difficult times. My best advice is to be patient, follow the CDC recommendations, and keep the faith that all will get better.

In Solidarity,

Mark S. Lauer, BM IBEW LU 14
